The DSM Camera is a driver fatigue monitor. It faces the driver, watches for closed eyes and head nodding, and sounds an alarm when it detects either.

## What it detects

- **Closed eyes.** Eyes that stay closed trigger the fatigue alarm.
- **Head nodding.** The head dropping forward triggers the alarm.

It does not detect distraction, phone use or smoking. For distraction, use the [AHD005](/product/adh005-dsm-camera/); phone calls and smoking are in the DMS function of the WD10 and WD11.

## Installation

- The viewing angle adjusts from 120° to 170°, so the camera can sit on the dashboard or the A-pillar and still frame the driver's face.
- Infrared light keeps detection working in the dark.
- Keep the lens clear of sun visors and steering-wheel spokes, so the face stays in view through the whole shift.
- It runs on 12–24 V, for 12 V and 24 V vehicles.
- The cable and connector differ by recorder, so state your MDVR model when you order.

Connected to an MDVR, each fatigue event is stored with its video, so a manager can see when in a shift the alarms occur. To add road-facing alerts, pair it with the [ADAS Camera](/product/adas-camera/) on a recorder such as the [WD12](/product/wd12-mini-dual-sd-card-mobile-dvr/).

## FAQ

### What does the DSM Camera detect?

Closed eyes and head nodding. It sounds a fatigue alarm in the cab when it detects either. It does not detect distraction, phone use or smoking.

### What is the difference between the DSM Camera and the AHD005?

Both are driver-facing 1080p infrared cameras. The AHD005 adds yawning and distraction detection and checks whether a hat or helmet is worn.

### What power does the DSM Camera need?

12–24 V, so it fits both 12 V and 24 V vehicles.
