4G data calculator
Work out how much mobile data a connected dashcam or MDVR uses each month, so you can pick the right SIM plan. Set how the fleet tracks, watches live video and uploads event clips.
Data per vehicle per month
1.1 GB
About 11 GB a month for 10 vehicles. Choose a plan with about 20% headroom: 1.3 GB per SIM.

- Live view325 MB
- Event clips731 MB
Recording to the memory card uses no mobile data. Estimates use our measurements on two carriers; your carrier, signal and stream settings change the result.
Data used by one hour of live view
| Stream | 1 camera | 2 cameras | 4 cameras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sub-stream | 50 MB | 100 MB | 200 MB |
| CIF | 225 MB | 450 MB | 900 MB |
| D1 | 900 MB | 1.8 GB | 3.6 GB |
| 720p | 1.4 GB | 2.7 GB | 5.4 GB |
| 1080p | 1.8 GB | 3.6 GB | 7.2 GB |
GPS tracking alone, reporting every 30 seconds around the clock, uses about 17 MB a month.
How it's calculated
Monthly data = tracking + live view + uploaded clips. Recording goes to the memory card and uses no mobile data.
Tracking. Each position report with its heartbeat is about 200 bytes. At the default 30-second interval that is 120 reports and about 24 KB per hour.
Live view. On the sub-stream we measured 11 to 17 KB per second for each camera on two carriers, which is about 40 to 60 MB per camera per hour; the calculator uses 50 MB. Watching the full-quality main stream uses the recording bitrate: about 1,350 MB per hour at 720p and 1,800 MB at 1080p.
Event clips. A clip uploads at the recording bitrate, so a 15-second 720p clip is about 5.6 MB and a 1080p clip about 7.5 MB.
All figures use decimal units (1 GB = 1,000 MB), as carriers bill them, and H.264 video.
