A Wi-Fi dashcam makes a local wireless link to a phone at the vehicle. In the app you watch the live view, download clips and change the settings without removing the memory card, and without a SIM card or a data plan.
What Wi-Fi does not do
Wi-Fi works only within range of the camera. It gives no remote access from the office, no live tracking and no alerts while the vehicle is driving. For those you need a 4G model.
Who Wi-Fi dashcams are for
Small fleets, rental vehicles and owner-operators whose vehicles return to a depot or yard each day, where a supervisor or the driver downloads footage after an incident.
How to choose
- Wi-Fi only. The B5 is our Wi-Fi-only dashcam. It has three cameras (the road at 2304 × 1296, the cabin and the rear in 720p), a 3.16-inch screen and WDR, and no GPS.
- 4G with Wi-Fi. Our 4G dashcams, except the S202, and the WD12 recorder also have Wi-Fi for transfer at the vehicle: 2.4 and 5.8 GHz on the D9 and D2, 2.4 GHz on the A5, A3, A6 and A18, and 802.11 b/g/n on the WD02 and WD12. On the WD10 and WD11, Wi-Fi is an optional module.
- Storage. The B5 takes microSD cards up to 128 GB, with loop recording and G-sensor protection for event clips.
- Parked recording. On the B5, time-lapse recording while parked is an option and needs a hardwire kit.
